Joy for Kennet girls crowned champions of Berkshire
Kennet School U12s girls football team have been crowned champions of Berkshire for the second time.
They won in the final of the Berkshire Schools Football Association County Cup earlier this month.
The 4-0 triumph over Brakenhale School, Bracknell, saw them crowned champions for the second time in three years.
The side had already beaten LVS Ascot, Edgbarrow and Dedworth to earn their place in the final at Cantley Park, Wokingham.
In the PlayStation Schools National Cup the Kennet U12 girls also had a great run, making it through to the final 16 of 300 teams nationwide.
They beat King Alfred’s 5-2, before dismantling Didcot 4-1.
In the third round they faced St Michael’s, who were beaten 3-2, before a 4-1 win over Mangotsfield in round four.
They eventually exited in the last 16 at the hands of Penryn, who won 1-0 in extra time.
The girls were the last Berkshire team left in the competition, as well as being one of only eight teams left from the South of England.
Three of the girls in the Kennet team – Sophia Kocovska, Francesca Sayer and Isla Ladds – are no strangers to regional success.
The trio were part of the record-breaking Newbury District girls squad last year who won the quadruple – the Southern Counties League, the Southern Counties Cup, the Aston Villa District Cup and the South East Elite U11 Cup.
