Kingsclere take advantage to go top of Newbury Sunday League
There has been a change at the top of Newbury Sunday League, at least for the time being.
With NWX not having a fixture, Kingsclere had the opportunity to draw level on points with a win at home to Aldbourne Royals.
Kingsclere went 1-0 up after 20 minutes and looked to be in control of a tight affair, until Aldbourne stuck a volley into the top corner in the 75th.
With ten to go, it was Declan Shuttleworth who saved Kingsclere with a punishing header, meeting the cross of Callum Hutchinson to win the game 2-1.
Kingsclere sit top of the league for now, with NWX holding a game in hand on the challengers.
It was a great Sunday for Diamond FC, who beat Thatcham Tornadoes 6-0 at home to consolidate their position in third place.
Goals from Jordan Boys, Ben Blackmon, Jack Blackmon, Mark Lightbody, Arron Richards and Josh Johnson marked a stellar performance in Ecchinswell.
Diamond are now four points clear in third place, with a game in hand on Tornadoes and The Crickets who are chasing them down.
The Crickets AFC did their chances no harm on Sunday though, battling to a 2-1 win away at Frilsham.
Tyler Churcher put in a superb performance, bagging a brace for the Thatcham based side and taking home the AutoMerc Man of the Match award.
This was their first win in seven games, their last coming on October 27th.
Despite this, their season is still very much alive as they lead the league’s new joiners in fifth, with fourth placed Tornadoes within touching distance.
