Kumar gets call up for Berkshire
The 19-year-old batsman has been part of the county set-up for several years, playing for their under-17 team when only 15. A former Maidenhead and Bray Colts player, he joined the Gloucestershire Academy, and played for their 2nd XI, but his appearances were restricted by injury.
“He has been on our radar for some time.” said Berkshire team manager Jeff Jones.
Kumar replaces the unavailable Steve Naylor as Berkshire look to end a disappointing season by securing their first championship win. The rest of the team is the same as the one which suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Cheshire last week.
Berkshire: David Barnes (Henley), Matt Jones (Finchampstead), James Morris (Falkland), Bjorn Mordt (Henley, capt), Shelvin Gumbs (Reading), Karan Kumar (Slough), Stewart Davison (Henley, wktpr), Shaun Udal (Leatherhead), Ian Sturmer (East Grinstead), /Tom Nugent (Henley), Gurveer Singh (Henley). 12th man: Alex Patterson (Reading).
