Lawler aiming to ‘get back on track’ after Tadley lose to Fleet
Tadley Calleva suffered their fourth league loss in a row at home to Fleet Town on Saturday.
The visitors went 1-0 up in the seventeenth minute through a direct free kick.
Tadley’s Alex Miller cleared a shot off the line to keep the deficit to one, but ten minutes later Calleva were caught on the break as Fleet made it 2-0.
The second-half saw Tadley come out fighting, but within ten minutes Fleet had made it 3-0 with a square ball across the face of goal.
Fleet’s goals were handed to them, on a day which left Tadley ruing their mistakes.
“We’ve had a bit of a difficult run,” said manager Joe Lawler.
“We’ve had injuries, suspensions, people being away.
“We have to look at ourselves really.
“We’ve been giving away too many easy goals and making too many mistakes.
“If you give teams like Fleet and Cobham opportunities, they’ll punish you.
“But with the games we have left we can put that right and get back on track.”
Tadley’s fourth league loss in a row sees them remain seventh, but they’re now fifteen points off the last play-off spot, occupied by none other than Fleet.
Calleva have two games in hand though, and know better than anyone what a late season run can do.
“It’s just about us, we have to take it one game at a time,” he said.
“If we come up short, then we come up short.
“But at least we’ll have given it our all.
“We’re well capable of going on a good run, we’re just running out of games, so that needs to come now!”
Any such run likely needs to start on Saturday, as Lawler’s side travel to midtable Horley Town.
“I don’t go into any game thinking it’s easier than the last,” he said.
“That’s been proven plenty of times over the last two years.
“The Combined Counties is a tough league.
“It’s all down to us, if we compete we can beat anyone in the league.
“We’re looking forward to putting things right against Horley.
“Then on Tuesday night we have Badshot Lea in the semi-final of the cup.
“So there’s two big games to look forward to.”
