Lawler confident Tadley can get back on track

Tadley Calleva boss Joe Lawler reflected on his side’s heavy 5-2 loss away to Cobham on Saturday.

Calleva actually opened the scoring after just eight minutes, when Jack French played a sublime pass with the outside of his boot to find Brett Denham in space.

Denham cut inside to bend the ball expertly into the bottom corner for 1-0.

Cobham equalised in the 23rd minute however, with an easy square ball across the box.

Minute 30 saw them score a like for like goal to make it 2-1 within half an hour.

Three minutes later it was 3-1, and on the brink of half time it was 4-1, thanks to a pair of free headers from close range.

Tadley looked more positive as the second half began, but on 70 minutes they conceded an easy goal thanks to a flick on for 5-1.

Andrew Charsley nodded home for Calleva to make it 5-2, ending a tough afternoon against a clinical side.

“There’s a common theme with us which we need to address,” Joe Lawler said.

“We concede, and then suddenly we’re three down.

“We concede in quick succession, it’s hard to come back from.

“We were three goals down at half time on Saturday.

“It was nice to see that we didn't give up, we kept going and had a bit of pride in ourselves.

“But we dug ourselves too big of a hole.”

All-time top goalscorer Brett Denham has looked good since returning to Tadley, and it’s a move which has come at the right time for Calleva.

“He came in to give us some competition and rotation.

“Kieran Rodgers got sent off against Wokingham, so he’s been suspended for three games.

“Brett has done well, but we’ve missed quite a few players in the last couple of weeks.”

Tadley face Sheerwater, Fleet and Horley in their upcoming league fixtures, hoping to get back on track.

“This year we’ve left ourselves with a lot to do.

“We’ve got some difficult games, but our group will give it their all.

“It will be nice to pick up some points in the league, hopefully we can have a really good end to the season.”
