Thatcham Town manager Jamie Leacock praises two solid performances as unbeaten run goes on
Thatcham Town manager Jamie Leacock was happy with two positive performances, which has seen his side extend their unbeaten run.
On Saturday, the Kingfishers drew 1-1 with Westfield at the Stacatruc Stadium, before earning a 2-2 draw with Binfield on Tuesday evening.
Speaking about Saturday’s home draw, Leacock said: “We played well at home and even though we conceded a sloppy goal and were slow in the first-half, we reacted well in the second-half and we got the equaliser.
“It was well-deserved, we dominated the game then and we got a penalty, but we missed it and we only came away with a point.”
During Tuesday’s point with Binfield, Thatcham took the lead on two occasions and the manager was happy with how his squad performed.
“Binfield have started very well this season and we knew it would be a tough game, but the squad now is a squad with lots of confidence.
“We played really well, we took a lead, but then we conceded right on the stroke of half-time and I think we showed a bit of naivety.
“Instead of clearing the ball, we tried to pass out from the back and we got caught.
“We came out in the second-half and played well and away from home and against a good side, it is a very good point.”
With those two results, Thatcham have built a bit of a run and they have not lost a league game since October 27.
“We have gone five games without losing, so we’re building a bit of momentum and the performances have been really strong.”
This weekend, Thatcham host Chipstead – who are below them in the table – and Leacock is aiming for all three points.
“In an ideal world, I need to turn some of these draws into wins so we’ll go into the game with lots of confidence and there’s no reason why we shouldn’t play well.
“They are a team in and around of us and when you play these teams it is important that you can get something.”
