Jamie Leacock knows results will come after Thatcham Town draw season opener against Northwood

Jamie Leacock believes that his side should have taken three points against Northwood on Saturday after a positive performance.

The Kingfishers drew 1-1 in their first Isthmian League South Central game of the season, with their goal coming from forward Brad Pagliaroli.

Thatcham took the lead and could have had two-goal advantage, but Antonio Dembele’s second-half penalty was saved.

Northwood battled until the end and equalised with 16 minutes remaining to come away with a point.

Leacock said: “I think on reflection it’s a good start to the season, to be able to get a point on the board, because we played really well.

“We should have won the game because we created a hatful of chances, but it is a good point and we can move on from there.

“A 1-1 draw with chances made is good, but you would be more concerned if you weren’t creating these chances.

“In pre-season we have done that and scored lots of goals, so it will happen for us and if the boys continue with similar performances we will be alright.”

Supporters were inside the Stacatruc Stadium once again and Leacock was grateful to see them watching a competitive fixture once more.

“It was great for us and it was great to see everyone back because they knew that three points were riding on it and it was the first league game since November.

“It was a good atmosphere and hopefully we gave them a performance that they can be proud of and one that can give them excitement about what we’re going to do this year.”

This weekend, Thatcham enter the FA Cup and travel to Thame United in the extra-preliminary round of the competition.

“They have been together for a while and the manager has a very settled squad, but we are hoping for a good performance and I know we’ll be up for it.”
