League and cup wins for Tadley Calleva as they continue promising start
Tadley Calleva had a bank holiday weekend to remember, as they won twice to continue a promising start to the season.
Saturday morning began with good news, as the club confirmed that 19-year-old left-back Sam Bagan had returned to the club.
A former QPR academy player, the young full-back came straight into the Calleva side as they faced Clanfield 85 FC away from home in the FA Trophy.
A wet afternoon at Radcot Road started perfectly, as a chance fell to Connor Thorne in the box, who finished brilliantly on the half volley after sixteen minutes.
In the 39th minute, star striker Kieran Rodgers did what he does best, meeting an Alex Miller cross with a great finish to send the keeper the wrong way.
Just five minutes into the second-half Tadley led 3-0, as another Miller cross went in off a Clanfield defender for an own goal.
The home side converted a penalty to make it 3-1, but in the 85th minute Jack French restored the three goal advantage, finishing his own move with a half-volley.
Calleva will travel to Bristol Telephones FC in the next round.
Monday saw a return to league action, as Guildford City visited Barlow’s Park.
It was a dream start too, as Brad Neal’s long throw was flicked on straight to Alex Miller, who scored to make it 1-0 after just two minutes.
A commanding performance followed, with Calleva controlling the game and pushing for a second.
They found one in the 63rd minute, as Connor Thorne won the ball in midfield to set up Jack French, who smashed it in off the bar for 2-0.
Just seconds later, Rodgers got his goal, slotting home for 3-0.
In the 69th, a short free kick led to a great team goal, as Rodgers played in Alex Miller who cut inside from the left flank to finish calmly for a fourth.
A late Guildford goal was to be a mere consolation, as Joe Lawler’s side finished 4-1 winners to end the bank holiday in style.
