Local clubs find out FA Cup fate

The draw for the early rounds of the cup was made on Friday, with Newbury drawn to play Oxfordshire club Thame United in the extra preliminary round on Saturday August 11 at 3pm.
If Newbury win they will pocket £1,000 and meet fellow Oxfordshire outfit North Leigh in the preliminary round on Saturday August 25 at 3pm.
Meanwhile Hungerford and Thatcham (pictured in training this week), who both received a bye in the extra preliminary round, have been drawn against Beaconsfield SYCOB and either Cove or Slimbridge in the preliminary round.
In the FA Trophy preliminary round, scheduled to be played on Saturday September 15 at 3pm, Hungerford will make the relatively short trip down the M4 motorway to play east Berkshire side Slough.
Should the Crusaders win that tie they will entertain Hampshire club Gosport Borough at home in the first round qualifying on Saturday September 29 at 3pm.
Meanwhile, Tiverton Town will make a 270 mile round trip from Devon to Berkshire to take on Thatcham in the FA Trophy preliminary round.
Should Thatcham beat the Devon side they will travel to Dorset to play Weymouth in the next round.
Commenting on the draw new Kingfishers boss Neville Roach, who left Hampshire club Hartley Wintney to join Thatcham in May, said: “The FA cup will be great experience for the guys.
“At Hartley Wintney people thought we wouldn’t get anywhere, but we were just one step away from the first round proper last season. In the FA Cup it’s all about which team turns up on the day.
“It will also be a massive financial help because the budget was cut this season.”
Meanwhile in the FA Vase Newbury received a bye in the first round qualifying, but have been drawn at home to Gloucestershire side Lydney Town in the second round on Saturday September 15 at 3pm.
If they make it through to the next round they will travel to either Berkshire side Holyport or Winslow United from Buckinghamshire on Saturday October 13 at 3pm.
