Local fencer wins competition in London

Leonora Mackinnon capped off a great season by winning the Women's Epee at the London Open on Saturday

A YOUNG West Berkshire fencer is celebrating after winning a senior open competition in London on Saturday (June 18).

Leonora Mackinnon, who has been selected again for the England Team at this year's UK School Games in September, won the Women's Epee at the London Open on Saturday, seeing off competition from across Britain and Europe.

The win - her second senior open win - caps off a great season for the 17-year-old, who has been selected for the Great Britain team for the Junior European Championships in Moscow, the Cadet European Championships in Austria and the Cadet World Championships in Jordan.

The St Gabriel's School pupil has also been selected as a ‘rising star' by the Jaguar Academy of Sport, while she has finished the season ranked 2nd in the cadets (under 17) across Great Britain and 4th in the juniors (under 20) across Great Britain, while she is currently ranked 11th in the seniors.
