Local trainer Harry Derham finalises his Cheltenham Festival trio for next week - including one who “absolutely loves” Cheltenham
Local trainer Harry Derham has revealed his three horses who will be taking part in the Cheltenham Festival next week.
Derham, who had a fine winner on the Kempton card on Wednesday on the Flat with One Horse Town, will be sending Queens Gamble, Turn And Finish and Mossy Fen Road to Prestbury Park for the showpiece meeting in the west country.
Queens Gamble looks set to take her place in the mares hurdle on day one of the Festival, Mossy Fen Road will line up on day two in the Champion Bumper and Turn And Finish looks set to take his place in the Fred Winter, also on day one at the Festival.
Speaking to Racing TV, who offer the latest Cheltenham free bets offers, Derham said of Queens Gamble: “The drying ground will suit her nicely. She is a classy mare, she is good enough to run in the race. How we get on, I don't know.
“She is 136 rated, that is a little shy of some of those top ones in that race but two miles and four is good for her and she absolutely loves Cheltenham, hopefully she acquits herself well.”
Derham described Mossy Fen Road as a “proper horse” but the trainer will have to make a decision whether he runs in the bumper if the ground continues to dry out.
“He’s a proper national Hunt horse”, Derham added.
“I think the world of him but I am not going to run him on good ground there. I believe he is of that class to run in that type of race but he is a horse you dream of for the autumn.
“If the ground is on the easy side then he will go and take his chance. Hopefully he is one to really look forward to.
“Dry ground will suit the other two, but not Mossy. They all go there with each-way chances.”
Queens Gamble (Mares Hurdle) - 33/1
Turn And Finish (Fred Winter) - 33/1
Mossy Fen Road (Champion Bumper) - 25/1
