Five hour race causes a splash
MEMBERS of the Island Sailing Club, Reading, took part in their annual ‘Longest Day’ race on Sunday.
The race lasts for five hours, but it doesn’t mean that all the contestants spend five hours on the water.
It is a team effort where members take turns at sailing a team dinghy.
As it clashed with Father’s Day, numbers were down this year, but it turned out to be a highly-competitive race.
During the 25 laps, the lead position changed frequently, but at the final horn the ‘A Team’ were declared winners.
The presentation of the trophy was made back in the club house by Vice Commodore Roland Briggs before well-earned tea and cakes.
The Island Sailing Club is an RYA registered training establishment with a range of courses on its lake at Pingewood for anyone wishing to take up sailing.
