THATCHAM TOWN have lost top scorer Marcus Mealing after the striker quit the club this week to return to former club Marlow.

The 22-year old called co-manager Gareth Thomas on Wednesday morning to break the news and end a stay that saw Mealing net 13 times so far this season.

Mealing is currently serving a six-match ban for spitting at a player during a cup tie with Chalfont Wasps last month, and, said Thomas: “We stuck by him and did everything we could for him, but he told us he can’t get himself motivated for this level.

“We’ll get on with it and deal with it,” he added.”

Thatcham are at Milton United on Saturday and will also be without striker Yashwa Romeo, leaving Ian Davies as the only recognised striker in the squad until Thomas and co-boss Danny Robinson can run the rule over potential targets to plug the gap.

Tadley hunt five in a row

TADLEY CALLEVA are targeting their fifth straight win when they entertain Christchurch at Barlows Park on Saturday in the Sydenhams Wessex League.

Christchurch were relegated from the league’s Premier Division at the end of last season and are close to Tadley in the table as the home side bid to add to their four wins on the run in advance of next week’s FA Vase trip to Littlehampton Town.

Tadley have an injury doubt over Tolu Sotonye, who was on the receiving end after scoring in last week’s 3-0 win at Totton and Eling, and skipper Scott Kinge is definitely out.
