Masters strike gold in Italy
ATHLETICS:European Masters succsses for veterans Bob and David
NEWBURY veterans Bob Broadbridge and David Elderfield completed a golden Italian job when they swept to European titles when representing Great Britain in the European Masters Games at Lignano in Italy.
Both are reigning British Masters Champions, and were in good form going to Italy to take on the best in Europe.
And Broadbridge rose to the challenge by winning the throws pentathlon in the over 50 age group, while Elderfield went one better with a brace of golds in the 100m and 400m in the over 55 age group.
Elderfield enjoyed glorious sunshine for his events, and made the most it. He won a hard-fought 400m in 54.25 seconds, narrowly ahead of Gerhard Zorn of Germany.
His 100m victory was more emphatic, winning by four-tenths of a second, with Zorn again in second place.
