Max Flynn wins National Badminton Boys Doubles Championships

Teenager Max Flynn from Hermitage ends eight-year quest for a national title partnering Jonty Russ to victory at Essex’s Redbridge Leisure Centre

Teenager Max Flynn ended an eight-year quest for a national title when partnering Jonty Russ to victory in the National Badminton Boys Doubles
Championships at Essex’s Redbridge Leisure Centre.

The Hermitage player, who is currently attending Winchester’s Peter Symonds College, teamed up with Sussex’s Russ in the under 17 competition to beat
holders and Berks and Bucks pair David Jones and Harry Arksey
21-12, 22-20 in a thrilling final.

It was a welcome prize for Flynn and Russ, who had previously missed out in the under 19
championships at Milton Keynes, where they lost to champions Ben Lane and Sean Vendy.

Flynn has claimed national silver medals previously as he works through the age groups, but this was his first gold and he was watched by England under 17 coach Graham Hurrell.

Flynn plays much of his badminton at the Winchester Lido Sports Association while at college.
