McCready boost for Town
THATCHAM TOWN midfielder Ben McCready has opted to stay with the club after it looked as if he was heading for Evo Stik League rivals Burnham.
McCready seemed to be on his way following Saturday’s home defeat at the hands of Beaconsfield SYCOB, but he turned out in Tuesday night's home win over Uxbridge and after talking to manager Scott Tarr, agreed to remain at Waterside Park.
“We sat down with him,” said Tarr. “I told him that Burnham are second in the league and it is flattering to be approached. But do you want to go and be cover for somebody else or play week-in and week-out?
“He’s only 22 and he’ll be one of the senior members of the squad. He’s staying, and I’m delighted.”
McCready set up Reading youngster Karl Oliyide’s decisive second goal on Tuesday night after Sam Hamilton had opened the scoring, and Thatcham will go to third to bottom Chertsey Town in good spirits.
“I think that in the three games since the turn of the year we have showed a resilient side,” said the manager.
Thatcham will be without injured centre back Damien Smith and Kieren Mayler will deputise alongside Matt Bowler.
