McDonald storms to top of UK rankings

Team Kennet were back to winning ways in the second round of the Wessex Young Athletes League at Andover on Sunday.

Team Kennet finished ahead of Wimborne, Southampton City, Andover and Overton, Camberley and Dorchester.

Under-13s William McDonald produced the standout performance of the day.

He threw a massive 37.98 metres to win the javelin and move to the top of the UK rankings.

The under-15 girls won in their age group and remain on track to retain their title.

Claire McGonnell - 12.9 secs - and Zoe Allen - 13.5 secs - secured a double win in the 75m hurdles.

Allen later went on to win in the shot put with a throw of 10.18m.

There was another double win in the high jump thanks to twins Neve - 1.40m - and Mia - 1.35m - Wright.

Claire McGonnell continued her successful afternoon with a win in the javelin following a 31.71 metre throw.

In the long jump, Neve Wright came third in the A string and Octavia Thomas won the B string.

There was more success in the sprints - Sophie Moores won the B string 200 metres, Zoe Allen was 2nd in the A string 300 metres and debutant Isla Carpenter won the B string 300 metres.

The under-17 men also won in their age group.

There were wins for Seb Simpson and Brandon Carter in the shot put, Isaac Mitcham in the 400 metres and Euan Avery in the high jump.

The under-13 boys were second in their match - Aiden Fleming won in the 800 metres.

The under-13 girls were also second in their match.

Emerald Hill-Sawyer had a memorable day - she won the 100m in 15 secs and finished second in both the 200 and 800 metres.

There was considerable success away from the track too - Eliska Simpson won both the A string shot put and discus while Zoe Dickson won the B string events and Anna Hall threw 19.21m to win in the javelin.

Zoe Dickson made it a hat-trick of wins in the B string javelin.

The under-17 women came second in their match thanks to wins from Alanna Smith and Eve Brown in javelin and Charlotte Absolom in the discus and shot put.

Smith also won the B string 800m.

The under-15 boys were third in a match that included an impressive win from Ivan Checkmozov in the 800m in 2 mins 17.3 secs.

Harry Brooker competed at under-20 and broke the club's discus record thanks to a mammoth 39.26m throw.

Arthur Lane also competed at under-20 and clocked 57.2 secs in the 400m and 2 mins 13 secs in the 800m.
