Monty takes on golfing marathon...again!

Senior golfer, Monty Norman, completed four rounds of golf in one day to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support

A SENIOR golfer recently took on the full Monty of four rounds of golf in Newbury in one day again this year for charity.

Seventy-year-old Monty Norman, played 72 holes at Newbury Racecourse Golf Club on Monday (June 27), starting out at about 6am in sweltering hot conditions and finishing at about 7.30pm, when he was applauded in to the clubhouse by members of his family and several other members of the club.

Norman, who completed the Longest Day challenge last year and raised about £900 for Macmillan Cancer Support, was again supported by members at the club and he said he was hoping to have raised about £500 for the charity.

Norman, who admitted to feeling achy the day after the challenge, said: ”It was very warm in the morning and when the clouds came over, it was a welcome relief.

“It was a good day though and if I can raise about £500 for such a worthwhile cause, it will have been worth it.”
