More huge score lines in Newbury Sunday League, as new clubs prepare to debut
Week three of Newbury Sunday League saw a mixture of league and cup action, with all three fixtures ending in remarkably one sided score lines.
Kingsclere FC cemented their place at the top of the league, thanks to a dominant victory at home to Thatcham Tornadoes at Headley Playing Fields.
An outstanding early save from Kingsclere keeper Freddie Gee set the tone, before Lee Hamilton opened the scoring.
He’d go off injured shortly after, replaced by Archie Burgess who made a huge impact, scoring either side of half time.
Reece Goater, Daryl Goater and Dec Shuttleworth all grabbed goals to seal a 6-0 victory, while Marco Lanuzza took home Man of the Match, described on the day as a “one man midfield”.
Elsewhere, NWX continued their dominant early season form, as they comfortably dispatched newcomers The Crickets AFC at Henwick Playing Fields.
Plough on the Green FC played their first fixture in the Berks & Bucks FA Sunday Cup, hosting AFC Dukes of Bracknell Sunday League.
A 6-0 defeat was not what they were hoping for, as their cup run ended abruptly in a game disrupted by multiple injuries.
They sit alongside Kingsclere and NWX at the top of the league with nine points each, although the latter two have won all of their games without conceding a single goal.
Diamond had no fixture on Sunday, so opted to face newcomers Frilsham & Yattendon in a friendly.
It was the sort of test Frilsham would have hoped for, as this preparation game ended 10-4 to Diamond.
Kingsclere will look to further assert their dominance on Sunday, as they travel to City Playground to face Plough on the Green.
NWX will look to keep in touch, as they host Diamond FC at Henwick.
Thatcham Tornadoes will host The Crickets AFC at Douai Abbey, with both sides looking for their first points of the season.
Perhaps the most anticipated game is the clash between Frilsham & Yattendon and AFC Aldermaston, as the two new entries to the league make their official debuts.
