New boy Carl pitched in by Town
Davies given the task of helping to fire up Thatcham's bid to return to the promotion race
THATCHAM TOWN will pitch new striker Carl Davies straight into action on Saturday when they go to Yate Town bidding to return to the Evo Stik League play-off zone.
A run of eight league games without a run and a dearth of goals forced manager Gary Ackling to turn to Davies, who agreed to make the switch form Binfield this week after scoring 48 time sin 73 matches for the Hellenic Leaguers.
The former Cardiff City trainee and Barry Town marksman has impressed Ackling with his attitude and performance.
"He really wants to step up and play at this level," said the manager, "and he agreed to join us there and then and it is certainly nothing to do with money."
"I've told Carl that 10 goals from these last 16 games will be a great return," he added, "but he will give us something different up front anyway and give a lift to the other lads."
Thatcham will be without the suspended Scott Rees and Mark Hughes on Saturday while Mark James misses out with a calf injury, with Sam Flegg, Matt Bowler and Paul Taplin all lining up.
