Newbury academy side progresses after win

Newbury Volleyball Club's under 18s defeated Tendring to progress to the last eight of the English Championship

NEWBURY Volleyball Club's under 18 academy side secured a place in the last eight of the English championship with Sunday's 25-17, 25-18 win over Tendring at Ashcombe.

A much-fancied Tendring side included a number of England cadet players but they came unstuck against Newbury's hard-hitting and well-organised side, half of whom are under 16s.

Newbury go to the next stage at Kettering on February 26 with Tim Godden, Craig Gibson and George Scholey lining up alongside under 16s Jordan Ayres, Alex Whitehead and Dave Godden.

The latter trio will face a busy weekend as the following day they will be joined by Ollie Craven-Todd, Jacob Obong, and Ryan Murphy in the last eight of the under 16 competition.
