Newbury aim to make a promotion point

A win would almost certainly seal the Division One East title as well as Newbury have a far superior goal difference to Highmoor Ibis.
It is Newbury's final home game of the season, but they have two more road trips should they falter on Saturday, although manager Steve Melledew wants to get the issue settled as soon as possible "I would rather do it on Saturday than have to go to Rayners Lane or Finchampstead still needing to get a point. We don't need that added pressure," he said.
He is not taking Abingdon lightly, however: "I watched them at Thatcham last week and they are a tidy outfit who can play a bit."
Newbury have Jamie Green and Marc Piper back in the squad while top scorer Jeff Kalejaiye has recovered from a flu bug that forced him out of action midway through Monday's home win over Hungerford Reserves.
Promotion would take Newbury into a Premier Division vacated by the former Newbury Town almost exactly 30 years earlier when the club moved into the Isthmian League and on to extinction.
