Triumphant thirds make it two in a row with thumping win over Slough
Nicky Hanson, Rachel Williams and Tracy Sweeney were all on target as the women’s fifth team were emphatic 3-0 winners over Slough.
The ladies, who were the only women’s team in action at the weekend, moved up to sixth in the South Central Women’s Division 5 Thames after making it back-to-back wins.
The women, who have kept successive clean sheets, are without a scheduled league match this weekend but will return to action with the visit of fourth placed Wycombe 4th on November 4.
Meanwhile, there were four draws for the four men’s teams in action.
The men’s third team maintained their slender lead at the top of the South Central Men’s Division 4 North table following a 1-1 draw with Witney 2nd.Ben Cook’s goal was enough for a hard-fought point for the third team, who are one of three teams level on 10 points at the top of the league, although Newbury and Thatcham have played one more game than their rivals.
The fourth team’s five match winning run came to an end, although Willoughby Jordan’s strike secured a 1-1 draw with Oxford 5th in a well-contested friendly.
The fourths, who are top of the South Central Men’s Division 1 Thames table, travel to Phoenix Reading 2nd on Saturday.
Elsewhere, goals from Guy West, Jamie Bairstow and Neil McCullen helped the men’s masters to a 3-3 draw with South Central Men’s O40 Wessex Masters League leaders Winchester Wizards.
Newbury and Thatcham, who are unbeaten in three, travel to winless Andover Diamonds on November 4.
James Wood produced a standout performance, scoring twice, as the men’s sixth team played an intra-club friendly that ended in a 3-3 draw.
