Perfect start for leaders Newbury

Unbeaten Newbury Town moved to the summit of the Hellenic League Division Two East table following a comfortable 2-0 win over Didcot Town Development.

First half goals from George Armstrong and Danny Langford helped Town to a fourth league win in succession – six in all competitions – and catapults them to the top of the league for the first time this season.

Newbury – who have yet to concede a league goal all season – started well despite the difficult Didcot surface, Langford's cutback finding the in-form Armstrong who scored his eighth goal in six games since signing for Town in the summer.

The contest then settled into a somewhat scrappy rhythm as both sides struggled to get to grips with the pitch, but Town doubled their lead in the 40th minute when Langford blasted home for his first goal of the season.

Newbury thought they'd made it three before the break when Tom Holland finished off a fluid team move only for the linesman to flag for offside, much to the visitors' displeasure.

The second half was an unremarkable affair as Newbury saw the game out without much difficulty, Didcot plugging away but unable to offer much in the way of attacking opportunities.

Newbury will be looking to continue their impressive start to the league campaign – winning four from four, scoring thirteen times and keeping four clean sheets – with a trip to local rivals Mortimer this weekend.
