Newbury boss wants to top the Christmas tree
Steve Melledew said the only result he will be looking for is a win as Newbury face bottom side Didcot Town Reserves
NEWBURY boss, Steve Melledew, said he will accept an ugly win on Saturday, if it means his side top the table at Christmas.
Newbury face bottom side Didcot Town Reserves at Faraday Road on Saturday, looking to preserve their status at the top of the Hellenic League Division One East.
And although Newbury recently secured a 5-1 away victory against the division's basement boys, Melledew said he would be happy to take any kind of win this week.
"The only result I will be looking for is a win," he said.
"We want to stay where we are at Christmas and it doesn't matter to me if we win ugly.
"Anything after that will be a bonus."
Melledew is hoping to choose from a full strength squad for the game, although Tommy Langfrey faces a late fitness test.
Newbury enter the game in high spirits after avenging their only league defeat of the season on Saturday, winning 3-1 away at Penn and Tylers Green.
