Newbury chill out with a derby win

Icicle-strewn meet lasts the distance - but Thatcham's League Cup tie tonight is off

NEWBURY glided over the ice to beat Thatcham Town Reserves 4-0 in their frozen derby on Tuesday night to go back into second place in the Hellenic League Division One East table.
Both sides did well to complete the match in the sub-zero temperatures, which posed few problems for Newbury striker Jeff Kalejaiye however, as he cracked a hat-trick.
He struck twice in the first period with Craig Hill, putting Newbury 3-0 before Thatcham had David Cameron sent off for kicking out at Newbury's Darren Jones.
Kalejaiye's third came five minutes from time after a second period that ended with players struggling to keep their footing.
THE freeze has already put paid to tonight's (Wednesday's) League Cup tie between Thatcham's senior side and Clevedon Town, which was scheduled for Waterside Park.
The quarter final is now due to take place next Wednesday night with a 7.45pm kick-off.
