Wickens shows them how it’s done as manager heads in 85th minute winner in Newbury comeback win

Newbury won 3-2 at home for the third time this season as the Thames Valley Premier League Division One leaders came from two goals down to beat Hambleden thanks to a brace from Jacob Wallace and a late winner from player-manager Ben Wickens.

Newbury were stunned by the league’s bottom club and were 2-0 down at the break but two goals from Wallace and an 85th minute header from Wickens ensured they made it six league wins from seven.

“It was a game of two halves. We showed some character in the second half to come from behind,” assistant manager James O’Doherty said.

“Next week we have a Berks and Bucks Cup game (at home to Marcham) which is a good opportunity to put in a good performance in front of a good crowd on an important weekend for the whole of Newbury.”
