Newbury FC end losing streak while Burghfield win classic in Thames Valley Premier League




Newbury Football Club secured their fifth point of the season on Saturday.

They hosted midtable Finchampstead, having not earned a point since October 5th.

Their eleven game losing streak in the league was snapped at the weekend, as they drew 1-1.

The result brings their points total for the season to five, although they’re still seven points behind the next best team.

Newbury will still be pleased to end their losing streak though, as they look to prepare for next season.

Elsewhere in the Thames Valley Premier Division, Burghfield faced Tadley Calleva Reserves in a thrilling clash.

Michael Swift and James McClellan struck either side of half-time for Burghfield, but Cam George and Billy Wagstaff both scored for Tadley to make it 2-2.

The game looked destined for a draw as the clock ticked down, but Burghfield found one final breakthrough.

Oliver Brown delivered the final blow in the 90th minute of play, scoring to hand Burghfield all three points.

His side now sit fourth, while Tadley Reserves have slipped down to tenth.

In Division One, Goring United’s lead at the top got slightly slimmer on Saturday.

They drew 1-1 away at Penn & Tylers Green U23s, with Harry Voice scoring their only goal.

Meanwhile, Wokingham Town Reserves smashed Mortimer Reserves 7-1, to keep the pressure on and reduce the gap to seven points, although Goring still have a game in hand.

Elsewhere, Burghfield Reserves beat Fleet Spurs 2-0 thanks to Chris Smalley-Ward and Stefan Allen.

They now sit eighth in the table with multiple games in hand on the sides around them.

In Division Two, AFC Aldermaston Reserves lost 2-0 at home to AFC Winkfield Reserves.

They sit fifth in the league table.
