Town suffer first defeat of the season
NEWBURY Town were given a wake-up call on Saturday as they prepare for their toughest test of the season so far.
Town slumped to a shock 3-1 defeat home to previously winless Henley Town, who they beat 2-0 away a couple of weeks ago.
After four straight wins, top-of-the-table Town received a rude awakening.
And they'll be looking to bounce back on Saturday when they entertain all-conquering Westwood Wanderers at Faraday Road (2pm kick off).
Last season Westwood won the league and two cups, and they've won all four of their league games so far this term.
Newbury's director of football James O'Doherty said: "We just werent really at it - we were not good enough all round.
"We knw it was going to happen some time this season and hopefully we've learned our lesson.
"We need a response on Saturday and to play Westwood is a great incentive.
"Our manager Carl Jenner set that we did not meet the standards we have set this season so this is the perfect opportunity to put things right.
Ty Driscoll scored Newbury's lone goal on Saturday, but Henley's determination earned them a deserved win.
Goring United were celebrating after earning their first win of the season.
Last season's Division 1 champions proved too strong for Finchampstead, goals from Tommy Edwards, Ben Fuller, Josh Monk and James Plumridge earning them a 4-1 win.
A last-minute goal from Rhys Iremonger earned Burghfield a 2-2 draw with Reading YMCA.
Iremonger fired Burghfield ahead in the 20th minute, but Joe Roff and Stefan Allen looked to have won it for YMCA until Iremonger's late leveller.
Tadley Calleva, though, suffered their first defeat of the season, going down 2-1 at Wargrave.
Mortimer have suffered a disappointing start to the eason and they saw their county cup hopes ended on Saturday after losing 4-0 at home to Wantage Town U23s.
AFC Aldermaston Res powered on at the top of Division 3, scoring their third straight win after thumping Woodley United Development 5-1 with goals from Kyle Bedford (2), Noah Chengun, Vince Kennedy and an own goal.
But there was joy for Burhgfield A in Division3 as they went down 5-1 at Marlow Development, despite Joe Harding's consolation.
