Five-star performance from Anna

Newbury Ladies' fine form continued at the weekend as Anna Krzyzanowska scored five tries in a convincing 48-19 bonus point win over St Mary’s Old Boys Ladies.

League leaders Blues are a point ahead of fellow unbeaten side Cullompton Ladies, having scored 95 points in their first four games this season and accumulated 20 points.

Blues were quick to exploit weaknesses in the St Mary's defence and the impressive thirteen-fourteen partnership of Lizzie Harris and Krzyzanowska combined to score the first six tries of the contest as the home side raced into a 36-0 lead.

Nevertheless a resilient St Mary's side battled to secure a foothold in the game and were rewarded with a try of their own following a quick break after a turnover in the middle of the park.

Teenager Chloe Darby – deputising at scrum-half after Sofia Luxton had been forced off with a shoulder injury – released the back line, setting up Becky Church who beat three St Mary's defenders to score, increasing the lead to 41-5.

Into the second half and the contest became something of a clash of styles, the visitors utilising their strong forward pack to cross for a couple of scores before Blues fluid back line released the influential Darby to touch down for her second Blues try before the referee blew for full time with the score 48-19

Blues cup campaign begins this weekend with a trip to Chobham before a return to league action against strugglers Supermarine in a fortnight.
