Newbury Football Club lose six-pointer while Burghfield play out thriller in Thames Valley Premier League
Newbury Football Club suffered a damaging defeat in their survival fight on Saturday.
They travelled to Slough Heating Laurencians in a relegation six-pointer.
Newbury lost 2-1 at Slough Polish Club, handing their opponents their first league win since September.
That win also came against Newbury, who have struggled to compete following their promotion to the Thames Valley Premier League.
Newbury sit with just four points to their name from seventeen games.
This puts them last, with sides above them holding multiple games in hand.
This season has been a tough one, but those involved with the club will hope that the return to Faraday Road and the arrival of multiple new sponsors will bode well for the club’s future despite their impending relegation.
Elsewhere in the league, midtable Burghfield lost their clash with Holyport Reserves in incredible fashion.
Liam McVicar opened the scoring for Holyport after just five minutes, but one minute later Oliver Brown got Burghfield back on level terms.
McVicar scored again to put his side 2-1 up at half-time, before Kaser Chowdhary came off the bench to level things up in the second half.
Rhys Iremonger was sent off for Burghfield just five minutes later, setting up a tight ending.
The game looked destined to end in a 2-2 draw, but McVicar had other ideas.
He scored the winner in the 93rd minute to complete his hat-trick and win it for Holyport at the death, before Benjamin Lallament was also sent off for Burghfield.
McVicar wasn’t done there either, as he bagged his fourth of the day in the 98th minute to win the game 4-2.
Goring United’s march to the title in Division One hit something of a roadblock however, as they lost 7-0 away to third place Westwood Wanderers Reserves.
Charles Luffrum’s hat-trick, Kai Stubbs-Alleyne’s brace and a single from Thomas Bullion completed the rout.
This was only Goring’s second loss of the season, leaving them six points clear at the top with two games in hand.
Mortimer Reserves enjoyed a win however, beating Penn & Tylers Green U23 3-1 thanks to a Graham Lewis brace and a James Croft goal.
Burghfield Reserves also won, as Chris Smalley-Ward’s goal saw off Binfield Development U23 1-0.
In Division Two, AFC Aldermaston Reserves enjoyed a big win over Old Salesians.
Two from Kyle Bedford and one each from Denzel Uvetie and Morgan Best saw off their opponents 4-2.
