Newbury lose to table-toppers
Newbury lost their top of the table clash with Henley Town at Faraday Road on Saturday
NEWBURY failed to down Hellenic League Division One East table-toppers Henley Town as they went down 3-2 in their top of the table clash at Faraday Road.
Newbury trailed to an early goal from Simon Bochenski but got back on terms when Harry Goodger capitalised on a fumble by Henley goalkeeper Dave Lyons, and they should have gone ahead when Kalif Madden was brought down in the box, but Lyons made amends for his earlier blunder by saving Callum Willmoth's penalty.
And a slip by Newbury ‘keeper Andy Bayliss gifted Henley the lead before the break when he lost his footing while trying to keep out Ahmed El-Emir's header.
Newbury went in search of a leveller after the break and got it with 15 minutes to go when Goodger struck at the second attempt after Lyons had saved his first shot.
But Henley snatched the points 10 minutes from the end when Bockenski raced clear to set up Chris Dean for a simple finish.
Hungerford Reserves' game away to Farnborough Town Reserves was postponed.
