Newbury Netball League makes a welcome return as new winter season kicks off





Caravatti got off to a winning start in Division 1 of the Newbury Netball League as they beat Newbury 4x4 Centre (2) 58-25.

Caravatti settled well & steamed into a good lead with excellent shooting from Anna Sukwong Fletcher (GA) and Alice Brand (GS).

Kathryn Parr (WD) was able to unsettle Newbury’s attack with some great interceptions as they extended their lead to get the win.

Jets White were able to get a winning start in Division 1 as they beat Roots 48-31.

Jets’ Nikki Smith (GA) and Kate Ritchie (GS), demonstrating fantastic shooting, made it difficult for Roots to build any momentum in the game.

Further goals from Sam Dawson and Sarah Davis ensured it was Jets who secured the victory.

Vipers stormed to a fantastic 59-26 victory over Eclipse on the opening day of the winter league season.

A combination of good defending from Hannah Jann and clinical finished from Jac Ambrose and Beth Abinger, Vipers took control of the contest and never looked back.

Eclipse did battle until the end, but they were outdone by a very strong opponent.

In the other game, Jade Bailey’s secured a narrow 34-26 win over Tadley Witches.

In the Premier Division, Fusion cruised to a 43-23 victory over Jets Extra.

Fusion’s attacking duo of GA Maggie Taylor and GS Lorraine Hancock were clinical in front of goal and they helped their side maintain a healthy lead at all times.

Jets Xtra came out fighting, but they were unable to find a way back into the game.

Meanwhile, Jets Black were able to record a 47-27 victory over Hungerford extra.

The first quarter was tightly fought at both ends with the defence for both sides making some crucial interceptions.

The final quarter Hungerford came out battling, with patient interplay between Sharon Williams at WA, Molly Terry at GA and Mary Allsop at GS, but Jets took the win.

Brights secured a narrow 39-37 win over David Wilson Homes in the premier division.

It was a very close encounter, with the sides not being separated by much throughout the contest.

In the other premier division game, Newbury 4x4 Centre 1 were 59-46 winners over Robinsons Foods.

Meanwhile, the only game in Division 2 saw Acorn Managed Services beat Jets Orange 53-23.
