Newbury on a losing streak

Letcombe trip the chance to end a six-match slump

NEWBURY make the short trip to Letcombe on Saturday bidding to end their lean streak of six games without a win.

Still with a handful of games in hand on the sides around them, Newbury have seen others go to waste

leaving manager Steve Melledew pointing to: " sacking period. It's results like these that get a manager sacked."

He took the blame for last week's 3-1 defeat at Abingdon United Reserves. "I selected the wrong side," he said. "I put my hands up to that.

"But what can you do when 10 players decide to have an off day? On chances we could have won 10-3, but we are on the crest of a slump at the moment."

Melledew is planning a more all-out attacking policy on Saturday, although he will have to do without midfielder Dave Livings, who has moved to Lambourn Sports.
