Newbury Football Club returned to action in a heavy AFC Winkfield defeat in the Thames Valley Premier League

Newbury Football Club played their first match since January 18th on Saturday.

They travelled to the King George V Playing Field in Virginia Water to face AFC Winkfield.

Newbury had won just once this season, losing on ten occasions going into their clash with their mid-table hosts.

This trend looked set to continue, as Herman Nii Addo-Quaynor struck within five minutes to give Winkfield an early lead.

He bagged another in the 26th minute, and again in the 41st to seal a first-half hat-trick.

3-0 down at half-time, Newbury had little hope of a comeback.

Joseph Cohen confirmed this, coming off the bench and scoring just a minute later.

Addo-Quaynor scored his fourth to make it 5-0, before Saaim Rafi arrived to make it 6-0 with a few minutes to go.

A 6-0 loss keeps Newbury firmly bottom of the Thames Valley Premier League, with four points from thirteen games.

They host Reading YMCA at Faraday Road on Saturday in hope of turning their fortunes around.

Elsewhere, Tadley Calleva Reserves lost 3-2 to Holyport Reserves in a mid-table encounter.

Calleva faced an uphill battle, with their keeper injured in the warm-up and a man sent off in the first half.

Jordan Holmes and Jacob Rolfe scored, but goals from Shaun Heuer, Richard Jeffery and Luca Araguez saw Holyport run out 3-2 winners.

In Division One, Burghfield Reserves met Mortimer Reserves in a bottom-half clash.

Tyson Dyer’s 52nd minute goal helped Mortimer over the line, helping them up to seventh in the league.

Goring United were involved in a thriller in the Berkshire Trophy Centre Senior Cup.

Sullivan Akers scored four goals at Denefield School, but Westwood Wanderers scored five of their own to put Goring out 5-4.

Division Two side AFC Aldermaston Reserves got through in the Berkshire Trophy Centre Intermediate Cup.

Kyle Bedford’s 29th minute strike was enough to see them through 1-0 away to Finchampstead Reserves.
