Spiderman steals the show at Newbury Road Club’s annual Boxing Day Time Trial
Spiderman racing down the road on a bike decorated with red tinsel can only mean one thing – Newbury Road Club’s annual Boxing Day Time Trial was back for another year.
Together with other local clubs, Newbury’s annual festive event is one of the most unique in their calendar, with the emphasis as much on fun as speed and prizes for the most unique and unusual costumes and bikes.
This year’s fancy dress prize went to BPC’s Haydn James for his full body Spiderman outfit.
Newbury’s Dan McRobert won the most unusual bike prize for riding the 10 mile course on a Brompton – in other words, a foldable bicycle. Peter Brooke-Wavell, another NRC member, rode on the iconic Raleigh Chopper.
George Westall, of the Royal Airforce Cycling Association, managed the fastest ride of the day, completing the course in 23 minutes and seven seconds on his road bike.
Newbury Road Club’s regular time trial season is scheduled to begin on Saturday, March 16, with the first evening race on Wednesday, April 3. There are also events on a number of Bank Holidays.
Members and non-members alike are most welcome, with the club offering something for riders of all abilities. Full details of the schedule will soon be available on the club’s website, newburyroadclub.co.uk.
