Newbury shake off nine goal nightmare

FA VASE: Extra time thriller seals home tie with Clanfield

NEWBURY shook off their nine-goal mauling in the FA Cup of the previous week to have the best of nine themsleves as they won 5-4 at Holmer Green to squeeze into the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Vase after extra time.

Newbury went ahead early on when Tommy Chapman's corner was handled on the line and Jamie Green scored from the spot, only for the home side to pull level after 20 minutes when Eliot Derby beat Jamie Thomas and they were soon ahead when Dean Allen had a simple tap-in.

Newbury hit back quickly with Kalief Madden setting up David Livings for the equaliser and Madden was again involved when setting up Kalejaiye to restore Newbury's lead.

Two goals in quick succession after the break tipped the balance the other way, Andy Shed and Dan Boateng scoring for the home side before Kalejaiye tied it up at 4-4 with a drive from distance.

The decisive goal came early in the second period of extra time when Peters crossed to the far post for Madden to secure his side's home tie with fellow Hellenic Leaguers Clanfield 85 in the next round.
