Newbury swat Wasps to boost promotion dream
Tuesday night win leaves Newbury two games away from joining Hellenic League's top division
THREE second half goals gave Newbury a major promotion boost as they sealed a 4-1 win over Chalfont Wasps at Faraday Road on Tuesday night.
They go into the final weekend of the league programme in third place, but with a game in hand on Henley Town in the second promotion spot, and with a superior goal difference.
Harry Goodger's opener was cancelled out before the break by a goal from Wasps' Alfie Cumber, but Goodger again, Darren Jones and an own goal leave Newbury with every chance of returning the town's name to the top division of the Hellenic League for the first time in more than 30 years.
Newbury entertain Rayners LKane nmon Saturday and then go to Chalfont Wasps for a rpaid return on Monday, when Henley end their programme at home to Hungerford Reserves, but two Newbury wins will seal promotion.
