Newbury District Swimming Club swimmers shine at the Berks and South Bucks ASA County Championships
Newbury swimmers brought home a host of medals and County Champion crowns as they competed in the Berks and South Bucks ASA County Championships.
A total of 22 swimmers from Newbury District Swimming Club (NDSC) competed across 118 events – covering all strokes and distances – with 35 individual finals reached, 18 medals achieved and personal bests smashed.
Five senior championship medals were won by the swimmers during the four days of competition, which were held at Wycombe Leisure Centre on two weekends in January.
Head coach Emma Harris said: “I was really proud of all of our swimmers at this year’s County Championships. We had some fantastic swims and achievements.
“For some it was their first championships, for others a welcome return to the competition.
“It felt really great to be back at this meet and for NDSC to be so well represented.
“It was a really tough competition for everyone. Our older swimmers, competing in the 17 and over age group, faced a large number of competitors much older than themselves.”
Kaleb Fox-Jones led the field, taking home six medals, with silver in the 50m backstroke and 100m freestyle; bronze in the 100m backstroke and two silver and one bronze in the Senior Championships.
There were two nail biting finals in the girls 15 and 16 year old 100m breastroke events - resulting in gold for Charlotte Brown – who is now the new 15 year old county champion - and Eloise Wade – the new county champion at 16 years.
Charlotte also secured a bronze in the 50m breaststroke event.
Abbie Holland won two medals with gold in the 200m butterfly, securing the 17 years and over county champion crown.
She also took the bronze medal in the Senior Championship for 200m butterfly.
Can Tugcetin won two bronze medals in the 100m breaststroke and the Senior Championship in the same event.
It was also a busy few days for Jamie Leach who secured two golds – in the 200m freestyle and 100m breaststroke - and three bronze – in the 400m freestyle, 200m breaststroke and 50m breaststroke.
Chris Emberlin also won bronze in the 200m individual medley.
Kaan Tugcetin achieved bronze in his first ever counties in the boys 10/11 years 50m breastroke.
