The world’s oldest wrestling referee will officiate his final match on Saturday.

Al Saxon, 91, has lived in Newbury for many years and is set to retire after 60 years in the job.

Saxon has worked with some of the all time greats during his career, such as Big Daddy, Giant Haystacks, Mick McManus and Kendo Nagasaki.

He refereed the penultimate wrestling match on ITV back in 1988, when wrestling came off the air after 33 years on screen.

His final appearance will take place at Marlborough Town Hall on Saturday from 7pm.

The show, put on by LDN Wrestling, is expected to last around two hours.

General admission is £16, with concession tickets costing £13.

A family ticket for four people is priced at £48.

Tickets can be purchased here.

Last year we went behind the curtain, when wrestling returned to Thatcham’s Kennet School.
