Two draws and two losses on opening day

HUNGERFORD Town’s walking football team drew two and lost two to begin the new season at a wet Bisham Abbey.

Their first game ended in a 1-1 draw against South Reading, who took the lead after four running offences gave them a penalty.

Jim Macleod got a hand to the penalty, but could not keep it out.

However, South Reading returned the favour and John Vicario also made no mistake from the spot.

Late in the game Hungerford earned their second penalty for a foul.

Vicario stepped up again, but could not repeat his success from the spot on a second occasion.

The second game against Charters was Hungerford's heaviest defeat of the afternoon.

The Charters forward spun captain Dave Tait before firing home to give them the lead.

Running offences meant Charters doubled from their penalty spot after their goalkeeper had made a fine low save to deny Nigel Wardle.

Charters had a third ruled out for a running offence before they found that goal to seal a 3-0 victory.

The next match against Wycombe Chairboys was a tight affair and a shoulder problem to Vicario forced him off, limiting Hungerford’s goal threat.

Hungerford regained their defensive solidity to earn a 0-0 draw, but Brian Petts’ saved penalty – again for running offences – misse

In the final match Woodley Pensioners earned a 1-0 win in another tight affair.

Roger Titford came closest to breaking the deadlock for Hungerford twice.

Woodley Pensioners’ goalkeeper tipped a shot wide before Titford hit the post.

A corner was to undo Hungerford’s hard work when a Woodley player stole a yard at the back post to fire home into the roof of the net.
