NWX regain lead in Newbury Sunday League
NWX have retaken the lead of Newbury Sunday League in emphatic fashion.
With Kingsclere not playing, NWX had the chance to take advantage of their game in hand and regain their spot at the top of the league.
They did just that, making no mistake in their clash at home to Thatcham Tornadoes in Kintbury.
Kye Williams bagged a hat-trick in a standout display, while Harry Murtagh netted twice on his return to the side.
George Allen, Charlie Knight and Callum Yates also scored to give NWX an 8-0 win.
Diamond FC strengthened their grip on third place with a 4-0 win away to Plough on the Green.
Jack Blackmon got things underway with a tidy strike into the bottom left corner.
In the second half he grabbed his second, again finishing from the right side of the box, this time at the near post.
MJ Godfrey scored with a header to make it 3-0 from a looped cross, before Josh Johnson made it four.
Diamond now sit seven points clear in third place with a game in hand.
In the Vic French Cup, The Crickets AFC fought to a 3-2 win away to Aldbourne Royals.
Andrew Bullock bagged a hat-trick and the AutoMerc Man of the Match to send his side into the next round, where they’ll face AFC Aldermaston Sunday ‘B’.
Back in league action, Aldermaston battled to a 3-2 win at home to Frilsham.
Sam Allen scored a brace for Aldermaston, as his side continue to hunt down fourth placed Thatcham Tornadoes, now just five points away.
They have two games in hand on Tornadoes, and would be the first of the new joiners to finish above an established side if they can pull it off.
