Old derby revived at Northcroft
Thatcham’s relegation from Division One of the Thames Valley League last season and Newbury’s promotion from the third division pitches them together in Division Two B, and so far the neighbours have had differing results.
Thatcham remain unbeaten after their two starts, while Newbury have lost both of their games, although Newbury skipper Charles Anstey is not worried by the statistics: “In any cricket game it’s how you play on the day,” he said. “And I think we’ve got every chance.”
“We’re still missing a few players,” he added, “but it looks like a proper first XI this week.”
Newbury have Nick Ferguson and Nick Fitzwilliam back in action, while Thatcham will be without wicket-keeper Jack Young, who broke a hand punching his bat after losing his wicket in last week’s draw with Yateley.
“It shows you shouldn’t do that,” said Thatcham skipper Dan Stone, “especially with no gloves on!”
Chris Rochfort will replace Young behind the stumps with Ross Schreiber also coming into the side.
face a test when they entertain Slough at Enborne Lodge in Division Two West of the Home Counties Premier League, a week after sustaining a surprise home defeat at the hands of league newcomers Shipton Under Wychwood.
Slough have won both of their games so far - against Thame and Aston Rowant - and have bowled out both for fewer than 120 runs.
Falkland will be without Tom Heath, Jim Ettridge and Jon Chandler but hope to have Hamza Riazuddin and Bobby Zafar back for the trip.
