Newbury's Olivia Delahunty becomes British Cadet Champion after dominant display in Sheffield




Newbury Judo Club’s Olivia Delahunty fought at the British Championships for U18 in Sheffield.

Fighting in the U63 weight group, she had a bye in the first round before facing Daisy King from Melbourn JC and throwing her for Ippon.

In the third round, she fought Roberta Anton from Rush Judo and she threw her for Ippon to progress through to the semi-final.

Here she fought Sophie Wood from Sportif, with Delahunty holding her down for an Ippon win and thus progressing to the final.

In the final she fought Millie Bayliss from Dragons Academy, throwing her for Ippon within 24 secs to win gold and become British Cadet Champion.

NJC Coach Nicki Harris said: “This is the culmination of Olivia's hard work over the course of the year and I am very proud of her and this achievement.”
