Olympic pool splash for Zara

With Rebecca Adlington and Liam Tancock on the bill in the east end, Zara qualified for the 100m butterfly and at 13, was one of the youngest competitors in the open age group event which saw Adlington and Tancock book their places for this summer’s Olympics.
Accompanied by head coach Derek Carley, she recorded a superb time of 1 minute 05.37 seconds in the opening butterfly heat, knocking a huge 1.16 seconds off her previous lifetime best in an event that included Sweden’s world record holder Sarah Sjoestroem, who recorded a time of 58.28 seconds in her heat.
Zara’s time was the third fastest of the 13-year olds in the country competing in the event.
