One out of 10 great score for Thatcham

Town surge into the Zamaretto League promotion play-off picture with five gsmes to go

THATCHAM TOWN have surged into the Zamaretto League play-off scene after a run of only one defeat in 10 games.

And that means they could be only five games away from snatching a potential promotion spot with what is arguably the easiest run-in of the chasing teams.

"We probably have the best run-in of anyone," said manager Gary Ackling.

"But it really means winning five out of five and bettering our best run of the season," he added, "although when you go into our dressing room these days, you get the feeling that they are not going to be beaten."

Thatcham hopped up the table in the wake of last Saturday's 2-0 win over Hungerford and a midweek 4-0 success at Cinderford, assisted by a Scott Rees hat-trick

They now stand five points behind neighbours Hungerford in the last play-off place but, said Ackling: "We have to play Wimborne this week and then Yate, and if we don't win those two, then it won't matter.

"But if we do get through those, we could end up going to Andover on the last day of the season, and I would rather do that than have to go to Totton!"

Thatcham go to Wimborne on Saturday with Carl Self and Danny Williamson sidelined by hamstring injuries, although Charlie Mpi and defender Mark James are available.
