Oxbridge Blues from Newbury
Tom Watkins won the 3000 metres steeplechase for Cambridge with a new personal best of 9 minutes 33 seconds, pulling ahead of the field and stretching his lead over the final lap to finish 40 metres clear.
Helen Broadbridge was a double winner for Cambridge, dominating the hammer and discus events with throws of 45,38 metres and 38.41m that were close to meeting records.
Those successes, her second place in the javelin and fourth in the shot secured for her the individual trophy as best thrower of the match.
Alex Muir was in the Oxford team and was narrowly beaten into third place in the men’s mile race, run on the track where Roger Bannister first cracked the fur-minute barrier in 1954.
