Paddlers prepare for marathon task

Sunday’s second event from Newbury to Aldermaston Wharf and return covered 17.5 miles and 19 locks with Nottingham pair Matt Enoch and Adam Norfolk claiming their second win when leading the men’s K2 senior class class in a time of 2 hours 4 minutes 59 seconds.
Another Nottingham pair - Emily Illenesi and Hayleigh Mason - claimed the ladies’ prize in 2:31.17 while James Allen and George Barbicott from Longridge CC were the fastest junior crew in 2:08.59.
The next race is on Sunday, March 3 from Pewsey to Newbury and the final event two weeks later. This year’s Devizes to Westminster race is over the Easter weekend of March 29 to 1 April 1.
