'Pitbull' Bryan ready for the title ring

Boxing taxi driver earns a shot at regional middleweight crown after Epsom success

FIGHTING Thatcham taxi driver Bryan 'Pitbull' Richardson has earned himself a title shot after winning an eliminator in the Queensberry Boxing League’s latest bill at Epsom Racecourse on Saturday.
The 33-year old middleweight was a unanimous points winner over the respected Rossco Barker and will now face regional belt holder Ben Davies in Sussex next month.
His trainer David Wiggs puts down Richardson’s turnaround in form to his determination and fighting at a more natural weight, and that was highlighted in the way he handled Barker in the league’s ‘Unfinished Business’ promotion.
“He was just blinding,” he said. “He just keeps getting better and I’lve ever seen him fight like that.
“We took the Parker fight with only two weeks’ notice,” said Wiggs. “He’s handy and he’s six foot one and Bryan is nothing like that of course.
“But he toe at him from the first and I don’t think Parker knew what hit him. He had him in the first round and never let it go.
“It was a blinding performance and I’ve never seen anything like it. He’s earned himself a regional title shot now.”
And the trainer believes that he can face up to and beat long-time champion Davies in the fight to be held at the Millennium Arena at the Copthorne Effingham Park Hotel at Gatwick on Saturday, June 13.
“I think Bryan will win,” said Wiggs. “Davies has held the title for years now, but I’ve seen him wobble. He’s a bit ‘chinny’ and Bryan can really hit.”
