Latvian skipper moves in as Reading shore up in defence

ROYALS have reactyed to their recent wobbnle by signing Latvian defender and skipper Kaspars Gorkss from QPR.

The 29-year-old was in QPR's squad for Saturday's 1-0 win at Everton, but joins Royals on a three-year deal.

He played 42 of QPR's 46 title-winning league games last season and, said manager Brian McDermott: "He's been a target of mine since the summer when we knew there was a chance Matt Mills would go.

"We lost a lot of experience in the summer, so it was important we brought that experience to the club. "

Kaspars played for FK Auda in Latvia and later for Ventspils after spells in Sweden with Östers IF and Assyriska Föreningen.
